YWCA Women's Shelter, Summer Schedule, and Triathamoms!

Hello moms,

Next week is going to be our designated week to bring in our April donations for the YWCA Women's Shelter!  Thank you for all of your March cereal donations!!!  You guys ROCK!

The week of April 22nd-27th please bring in some cleaning supplies for the shelter!  They love Lysol wipes (they are easy to use but an expensive item for them to purchase).

NEW! NEW! NEW!

- I now have some tax deduction sheets that I will give to you when you donate!!!!!
-What you will do is fill out the sheet (most important is your signature and total amount) then hand Julia or myself the white sheet (to give back to the YWCA) and you keep the yellow sheet for your taxes!

-Angela, the director of the shelter would love to have your address so she can send you a Thank you card but an email will work as well!

I had the privilege of being able to go on a tour of the shelter today!  It was very surreal and I am counting my blessings!  Angela and I talked a lot about the month of April and how it is Domestic Violence Awareness month.  Their staff is saying a pledge everyday and she wanted me to pass it a long to you as well!
(check your email)
She has asked if we would take a picture with all of our donated items and the moms and kids and send her the picture so she can put it up in the shelter for all their staff to see!

Next week after each class (Monday night Fit&Tone/CoreFusion, Thursday Bootcamp, Thursday Fit&Tone/CoreFusion and Thursday Strollers In Motion) we will take a picture with all the donated items!
-If you are in SIM you can bring in your donations anytime and I will have them there for the  picture on Thursday or you can wait to bring them on Thursday!
-If you are in another class format besides SIM make sure to bring them to class this coming week, April 22nd!!!!

Thank you Angela for all the work you put into the YWCA!

Tri Academy:  Triathamoms is starting NEXT WEEK!!!!!  See flyer below for more details and contact Emily ASAP if you are interested!!!
Strollers In Motion we will start our summer schedule a week from this Monday!!!!  We will start Monday, April 29th!  Schedule below!
If it is still too cold or raining then we will meet at Sluggers (even if it is a Monday or Wed.) through the month of May!  After May we will not have a place to go when it rains!

March for Babies Team MommyMovement Fitness cancelled

Good morning everyone! Due to life's business and a low volume of interest this year, we have decided to cancel the MMF team for tomorrow's festivities.  Thank you for understanding!

March for Babies will still take place tomorrow at 10 am at WSU so please feel free to go walk/jog/run for this wonderful cause! You can register at the March For Babies registration booth with your personal donations as an individual/family and still participate in the MFB activities and the walk at 10 am!

If you have donations and are unable to make it to MFB on Saturday, you can give your donations to Tonya or myself in class.

Thank you for all your past support to this wonderful cause! We'll revisit this charity again next year.

Have a great weekend and get outside and be active in this beautiful Spring weather! See you in class :).

April Mom of the Month: Sara

You always hear around spring time about Spring Cleaning!  Clean out your closet to reduce the clutter and start fresh!  Well, that is what Sara is about to do on May 5th at the Prairie Fire Half Marathon!  She has decided to do some "Spring Training," she is cleaning up her eating and exercise and will be RUNNING HER FIRST HALF MARATHON THIS SPRING!!!

CONGRATULATIONS SARA!  I am so proud of you and love seeing you at Momsinmotion running club and CoreFusion!  AND helping you on your fitness journey with our Mother's Day FIT Challenge!

You are such an inspiration to many moms out there!  You make it look so effortless, balancing a family, full time job, doing a FIT Challenge, working out during your week and training for a half marathon!  Great job for taking care of yourself!  Keep it up girl!

So precious!
Here is her story:

My Favorite Pair of Shoes:

That is so hard!  It depends on the season I guess.  During the fall and winter, I love my tall boots.  I love to wear leggings and jeans and tuck them into my sassy boots.  During the spring and summer, I love my Yellow Box flip flops!

Did you start MMF to lose weight?
I started working out with Mommy Movement Fitness after the birth of my second child, my daughter Ashlyn.  I wanted to get back to working out as soon as possible so I could get the rest of my baby weight off as quickly as I could.  With my son, Luke, I felt like it took way too long to lose the wait and I did not want to repeat that.

Awesome Snowman!

What format did you use?
When Ashlyn was 2.5 months old, I joined the Mom’s In Motion Running Club and was only able to run about 3 or 4 miles at the time.  I was super nervous on that first day!  But to my surprise, all the women were so friendly, non-pretentious, and totally supportive.  It did not matter how fast I was or how far I could run…everyone just encouraged me to push myself and do my best.  Now, a year later, I am training for my first half marathon!
I also started doing Tonya’s Core Fusion class a few months later.  The baby weight was coming off, but I still wanted to tighten up my main ‘problem area’: my tummy.  The class is great!  I originally thought that only once a week would never be enough…but I was surprised once again!  My abdominal muscles are becoming more toned, and my arms and chest have changed so much because of all the push-ups we do.  And as an added bonus…I love my Monday night moms!
Lastly, I am also in the middle of my second Challenge with Tonya.  While I am not the best at remembering to text all the time, I have definitely adapted a new style to eating.  I eat more meals, but smaller portions.  I have discovered things that work for me and my schedule, and things that don’t.  I now think about everything I put in my mouth and whether or not it is the right choice.  I adjust and eat less on the days that I know I am going to eat out, or more on the days when I know I have a long run ahead of me.  I tease Tonya and tell her I need my own little rubber bracelet that says: WWTS (What Would Tonya Say?).

 Love it!!!

How has MMF changed your life?
MMF has changed my life in so many ways!  I feel so much better about myself and how I look!  I have learned so much about living a healthy life style and instilling that in my children as well.  I have met a group of wonderful women I can call my friends who have been inspiring examples of what the real focuses in life should be: Faith, Family, Friendship and Fun.  And I have learned I can push myself to do the impossible…like train for a half marathon. J
Thank you Tonya & Co!  You all mean the world to me. J

So cute!

Keep up the amazing work Sara!!!

March Mom of the Month: Julia A.

CONGRATULATIONS TO JULIA A.!!!!  SHE IS OUR MARCH MOM OF THE MONTH!

Julia and her family are such a blessing!  They have always LOVED to workout!  That is actually how Julia and I first met!  For those of you who do not know the story, I was working out at the gym while in Wichita visiting my parents and Julia approached me and asked if I was dating anyone!!!!  I really didn't know what to think!  LOL
Then she told me that they have a family friend that she could see me with (let me remind you I had NO idea who she or her husband were)!!!

Needless to say we all went on a blind date and now Justin is my husband and father of our two adorable children!

Thank you Julia and Joel for loving to workout and being at the gym a lot!!!

Julia and her family understand the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle for not only themselves but for their 3 year old daughter!

Taylor exercising for her pictures!  Too cute!

Julia is VERY deserving of Mom of the Month!  She not only lives by example she also helps teaches Strollers In Motion AND helps out with our monthly donations to the YWCA Women's Shelter!  She has such a big heart and is very compassionate!  Thank you Julia for all your help and for being such a great friend!
I LOVE having you and Taylor in strollers In Motion!

The adorable Atherton Family

My favorite pair of shoes:

Oh Lord, that would definitely have to be my tennis shoes!  If I weren’t a girl, I’d probably never own another shoe…. But occasionally we need to feel “cute” so I do (and most of the time I complain about how uncomfortable being “cute” is, lol).   Whether at work or play, my tennis shoes are my feet’s best friends!  And these active mommy/ nurses feet get PLENTY of wear so my tennis shoes are a MUST!  If it were up to me, I’d own a different pair for every outfit that I own!  I dream of one day having a closet full of different colored tennis shoes…. Hmmmm

Julia and Dana getting their run on!!!  Go girls!

Did you start MMF to lose weight?

Actually no.  My husband and I have always led a very health conscious and active lifestyle.  I worked out lifting weights and doing cardio at the YMCA with Joel till the very end of my pregnancy and felt great!  After I had Taylor, I loved the idea of being able to work out with her as well as the idea of her growing up watching and learning how to lead a healthy and active life!  MMF gave us that opportunity!

What format did you use?
We LOVE our Strollers In Motion!  Taylor asks every night when we go to bed… “Mommy, are we going to Strollers in Motion in the morning?”  On the days we don’t, I can see the disappointment in her face (which is just another reason NOT to miss)… most of the time we end of doing some sort of SIM at homeJ.

How has MMF changed your life?
Well first off, from first meeting Tonya years ago, I’ve always told her that I was NOT a “runner” and didn’t even have the desire to do a race.  Little did I know that after about a year of MMF, I was signed up for my first race… a 10k!  Both Dana, my friend, and I were impressed with ourselves when we actually ran the entire thing, after numerous prior conversations of “it’s ok if we have to walk a little”, lol!  BUT, it was an amazing accomplishment in both of our lives and we were incredibly shocked at how great we felt afterwards!  Needless to say, we’ve become quite fond of our racing season!

Loving races now!

Though the love for running has probably been the biggest “change” in my active life since starting MMF, I can not say enough about how MMF and Tonya have made an impact in our family!  On a personal note, I’ve always been a competitive person, especially in my sports.  Doing SiM with the other moms has really pushed me to improve myself and challenge myself to step it up.  Probably the biggest life change MMF brought our family was just learning how to remain active as a mom!  Taylor and I love working out together!  What an amazing blessing that is in itself.  Not only do I love how she’ll show people how to work out, but my 3 year old knows more workout moves and positions than a lot of adults!  Joel and I have such proud parent moments at those timesJ!  I also love the concept of whole body health that Tonya teaches to our kids!  Health has always been a passion of both mine and Joel’s and we hope it will be for Taylor too!  To be part of something that is teaching and leading health in our community is such a joy!  I’m so glad that Tonya got me started when she did!  I can’t thank her enough for her leading, friendship, encouragement, but mostly for the heart and vision that she has!  Even with Taylor starting preschool in the fall, I don’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon!  See you all in class J!

Thank you Julia for everything you do for MommyMovement Fitness and for your very positive attitude!  Congratulations!  You deserve it!

Tonya
